The 8th Annual RSG-Wisconsin (2007 edition) is being held in
the
Green Lake area for the fourth time. Courses are the famous Lawsonia Links and
Woodlands courses.
Friday afternoon will see a tuneup round, with two rounds
Saturday and
one Sunday.
Tee times on Friday afternoon start at 4pm on
the Links course.
Tee times on Saturday morning--the tournament round!--start at
7:58am.
Saturday afternoon's round is the famous "Cheese Round," a team event for
which the rules are obscure. Course is the Woodlands course.
Tee times for Sunday's round at the Woodlands begins at 8:30am. We should finish by around
noon or
so, which will leave plenty of time for those driving home or
leaving by
plane.
Lawsonia has worked with me to provide us with a remarkable value--four rounds at some of the best golf courses in Wisconsin, at a price we cannot refuse. Three of the four rounds include a cart (Friday's pm round does not), but you may walk if you like. However, it's advisable to pair with a rider on the Woodlands course, as there are places where a quick ride to the next hole is advisable.
Pre-Event Round at the Irish Course. A pre-tuneup round
will be held Thursday at the Irish Course of the Whistling Straits complex. (Whistling Straits is hosting
the U.S. Senior Open two weeks after, and is unavailable). This is not an official part
of the weekend festivities--it's really a tune up on a course some feel is better than what
Whistling Straits has to offer. (Note: Cost for the Irish Course are $150 walking--caddie
is $58 more, plus tip).
This is not included in the
prepaid
package, however.
What are the Minimum Qualifications? There is no minimum level of golf ability required, though it is
recommended that you already know which end of a golf club to
hold.
Participants range from low-handicap golfers to high-handicap
golfers--in
fact, some don't even have a handicap! We get together to enjoy
the
friendship, the cameraderie, the golfing. We love the game, and we
love
golfing with others who love it too.
Regardless of how many strokes you take, as long as you move
along and
are pleasant company, we'll enjoy golfing with you.
I'm always excited to meet new people at these events. Everyone
seems
to go out of their way to help the others have a great time. I've
never
met a finer group of golfers than those who have helped me enjoy
the RSG
events I've been lucky enough to attend.
Map: Coming Soon--Lawsonia is located adjacent to Green Lake,
Wisconsin.
Lodging: I have reserved some rooms to ensure we have
places to
stay at a local motel in Ripon. Costs will be $45 for a single,
$55 for a double (including tax). The motel is about 15 minutes from the
Lawsonia Courses, and nearby our restaurants.
Costs: The cost for all four rounds, and goodie bag/souvenir, and taxes, is estimated to be $220. This
includes a cart for the Saturday rounds at the Links and Woodlands, and the Sunday round at the Woodlands.
(you get a cart whether you want one or not). The Links Course is very
walkable; the Woodlands is more problematic, with some elevation changes and
sometimes significant distance between holes. If you want a riding
cart on
Friday afternoon, you'll need to cover that cost yourself at the
course.
If there is some other combination of rounds that you'd like to
do,
please email me and I'll figure out the costs for you.
Courses: Lawsonia Links
is our base for the Friday afternon tuneup and Saturday morning
tournament rounds.
The Links is my favorite course of all time, a course which is modeled after a
traditional Scottish Links course. There are few trees on the course, and they
only come into play on a very few holes. While the course can reach out and
bite you, if you play within yourself there are reasonable ways to play
every hole.
The Saturday afternoon and Sunday rounds will be at The
Woodlands, a course carved out of the Wisconsin Woods years after the
Links course was developed. It's a beautiful course, challenging yet fair. The
signature hole is #3, also known as the "Cliff Hole." It's a wonderful
contrast to the Links.
The Cheese Round will be contested Saturday afternoon at the Woodlands course. The Cheese Round is played in teams; nothing more can be revealed at
this time.
Prizes: Anyone who can donate a prize is asked to do so.
Prizes
have ranged from a sleeve of balls to assembled clubs; shirts,
towels,
etc. But if you can't afford a prize, don't let that dissuade you
from
attending. We'd much rather have your attendance than your prize.
Rumor
has it that the Club Doctor is donating a KZG 60* low-bounce lob
wedge. Ron Blanchard is also donating same; one will be made w/ regular flex, one with
stiff flex.
Tournament Round: Of course, the Cheesehead trophies
will be the
major prizes. The tournament round will crown both a scratch
champion and
a handicap champion. Don't have a USGA handicap? I will assign one
to you
based on previous scores, gut feeling, and the results of a
zen-like
trance. (Decisions of the host are final :)
Some golfers at RSG-Wisconsin are very into the tournament
round.
Everyone who plays will be eligible, but if you're just there to
enjoy
yourself and have a casual round, that's fine too. The tournament
round,
for those competing, will be played strictly by the rules of golf.
Those wishing to compete for the scratch championship will play
from
the same tournament tees; those who wish to compete for the
handicap
championship may play from other tees as appropriate. Those
playing from
the tournament tees are automatically in the handicap
championship.
Golfers will need to submit
payment to me
ahead of time for the golf, and use their own credit card to hold
their
rooms. You can email me for the room list so you can get a room
reserved
in your own name.
